My turn to open a prize next, and mine was the Vtech Mobigo. Effectively a games console for younger children, it combines educational games with downloadable 'apps' that tested me on maths, spelling, and something Mummy called spatial awareness. She was also able to check online how I was doing in each of the learning areas. Very easy to hook up to the computer and download more games, which I did myself (although you will need a parent to pay the £2.99 for each new game!). I got the pink version with a Disney Princess game, but it does come in yellow/blue with a Cars game. It is recommended for ages 3-8.

At £49.99, it compares very well to the LeapsterExplorer, which the Bug owns. Personally I prefer the Leapster, because the games have more interesting levels (see my list of pros and cons for the Mobigo), but this is still a great interactive toy with lots of scope for learning.

The Bug was so excited to unwrap all the little packages that came with this gorgeous Le Toy Van Fire-Engine set. A lovely, quality wooden toy that will last and last - you know, the kind that you never want to give away, even after you've grown out of it. Unfortunately disappointment ensued as he realised that  firemen do not come with the set, so if you decide to ask Santa for this (and it would be a welcome sight in any young boy's Christmas stocking) you need to buy a couple of firemen to hold the loudhaler, climb the extentable ladder, and drive to the emergency! Cuthberts retail this toy at £26.99 and know their toys well enough to give you great advice, in-store and online.

DINOSAUR SKELETON EXCAVATION KIT - TYRANNOSAURAUS REX

 Fancy being a Palaenttologist ? Then these kits are a great way to get to find out about the dinosaur's that lived on our planet millions of years ago. The kits are a a plaster block with the skeleton embeded within, use the special tool provided to dig away and find all the various parts - Jaw, Shoulders Backbones etc.

Once you discover all the pieces you can put the skeleton together.

This range is very good for children aged 8 upwards and will keep them occuped for hours. its can get a little "messy" so a few old newspapers laid down first will help.

This range also has a Pterosaur and a Triceratops, these are just a couple in a range of skeletons. Great value at £9.99 anbd ideal as gifts for Birthdays.

Its a new Interactive Baby Range just in from Vtech called TOOT TOOT DRIVERS. This is the Garage from the range.

It a robust set in bright colours and full of moving parts, lights and noises. additional cars are available and each come with a little story book.

With this set you get a toot toot tow truck that can works its way all around the garage whilst it "chatters" away.  There are some great features including a lift which can take your truck up to the next level where you can visit the car wash to get your tow truck nice and clean. 

A great garage piece from Vtech for 18 months and upwards.

Cars 2 Operation Game

The Classic Operation with a Disney twist !! its a variation on the Doctors and Nurse theme. Hasbro have created a mechanic set to repair Mater, all the excitement and fun of the buzzing and precision required make this a game for all the family. Careful work is required to fix his bodywork without setting the alarm off !! The process of fixing up Mater is also a great hand eye co-ordination toy for the younger child. Both Girls and Boys will love this one.

Airfix - Spitfire Level 1

An ideal pocket money and rainy weather item !! This Airfix model kit of a Spitfire is a great way to start making model kits, It comes with all the glue and paint along with a paint brush all for around £7.

The kits are a little fiddly to start with but once you get the hang of them they are very satisfying. As you have a number of stages to complete the whole process can be split over a few days and the end result will be a very good scale model of a Spitfire. 

The kids that tried this set for loved working together and helping each other build various aircarft. Whilst they waited for the glue to dry and for the next stage to be ready they went outside for a short break ( very short as it was raining most of the day).

WOW - Dexter The Digger

Our most popular play table at Cuthbert's is the WOW one !! The toys left out to play take a full test and true battering every single day. Children pop in and head straight for the WOW table.

Dexter the Digger is one of the larger pieces in the range and one of the most popular. Due to the careful thought in the design any child will be able create lots of "stories" with Dexter. 

The scoop works and lifts the boulders and if you wish you can check the engine to make sure all is well and that you've not overworked the digger.

This kids ride on is the latest thing in from Mookie Toys. 

Ideal for 1 to 4 year olds. The Whirlee is a solid ride on this very stable plastic 4 wheeled "vehicle"

It is very Lightwieght and on castors which allows it a 360 degree movement. Available in Red & Blue with train or plane graphics, all for £14.99

We have only had in store for a few days and seen lots of kids jump on and then not want to get off !!! Children who are not yet walking have also been on it and find it very safe. Overall we think its a great value for money ride on.

Scuttlebug........

Cuthberts like the Scuttlebugs.These are robust tricycles for the younger child. They are based on animal / bug types and come in vibrant colours, they fold and are compact an ideal for taking away in the back of the car. Suitable for 1 to 3 years. Great for both indoors and outdoors ( current weather would indicate indoors ). We have had a store demo model out and are very impressed with the build quality and its light weight, the folding aspect is very easy and takes only a few seconds.

A very popular item. Its Compact and portable, just fold it up and you are ready to go ! Comes with a King and Queen with thrones and a royal bed,
Two knights with horses to defend them and their treasure chest. Castle includes a working drawbridge. My nephew used to have all his Knights in plastic bags before he got one of these, he now has hours of fun making up lots of stories and putting on shows for us all.

Big Jigs - Wooden Country Train Set

Its a Sunday Afternoon and a little windy outside so this is the perfect indoor toy to review. Big Jigs have this great wooden train set with over a hundred pieces, its is ideal for boy and girls. You can also add a battery operated engine and watch it run around the track, other optional additions include a pink engine. As with all Big Jigs train sets it is compatible with Brio, Early Learning, and IKEA wooden rail systems. Haba Fried Egg - I'm Hungry !!!

As it has been a food type of week with the toys its Fried Egg Time !! A great play item from Haba. Kids can crack an egg and fry it in the little pan. lots of fun and giggles with this one (plus the egg is made of cloth and machine washable)

Ninjago by Lego. a Cuthberts overview

Ninjago by Lego, We saw the range at a pre launch party and didn't think the "spin" factor on the sets was very good. However, the launched items are much better but still a little unstable. The massive support behind these will make them a success along with the collectable factor. The higher value sets offer some good value and will provide some great "Karate" type fun.

WOW - Dudley Dump Truck - what we think !!

 










Wow have a great selection of robust and colourful pre-school toys. A British company with a true understanding for value for money. Dudley Dump Truck is bright, brash, and "child" proof, best of all if needs no batteries. The play table in our store is testament to the hours of fun a toddler will get with this classic.
